Life After Lauren is the journal I choose to share. It is a collection of my personal stories, life lessons, thoughts, and advice as I navigate through the journey of my 20s while overcoming the loss of my sister.

ABOUT LAUREN

Dr. Lauren Taylor Vitrano was born on December 29, 1992, a blonde haired, blue eyed angel with a big smile and a heart of gold. She lit up every room she entered, she offered warmth and comfort to everyone around her.

Lauren battled anxiety throughout her life, but it didn't stop her from achieving everything she set out to accomplish. Lauren was an honor student from grade school until her very last days in her doctorate program. She used her gift of knowledge to help anyone who needed it, and her compassion to listen to anyone that needed to be heard.

The weight of the world became too heavy for her shoulders to bear. Lauren decided that it was her time to return back to heaven on October 9, 2017. We hold onto the belief that Lauren was as angel with the mission to teach kindness, compassion, selflessness, and love for the short 24 years she spent on this Earth. Her mission will only continue to strengthen in heaven as we come to terms with our loss, and demonstrate the values she taught.

I became Lauren's little sister on November 1, 1994, 22 months after she was born. Growing up, she and I were as opposite as sisters could be. While Lauren was quiet in her room reading a book, I was busy painting flowers and attending student counsel meetings. Despite the difference in our personalities, I followed in Lauren's every footstep. She motivated to try my best and persevere through every obstacle I faced. When Lauren chose pharmacy as her career path, I decided to embrace a path unique to me.

I was captivated by the world of marketing and worked tirelessly to become successful. I put my career first and my values and the people in my life second. I began losing sight of what mattered the most.

My life crumbled to pieces the day I lost my sister. It changed my perspective on everything. Mourning my sister will forever be marked as the most agonizing experience I ever endured, but I chose to come out of this as a better person. I have tasked myself with telling Lauren's story to all those willing to listen, and advocating for suicide prevention. I write about my journey to reassure those also affected by loss that they are not alone. I persevere with dignity and grace knowing my guardian angel sister is by my side.
